Reddies Old Boys Association Supporting the future of the Redmen and Redchicks EEYAAA
With the 2020 Rugby season to begin in April it sees the Reddies Rugby Club enter into its 49th season, a short step away from the milestone 50th season!Much has changed since the club was formed as RCAE in 1972 with one major factor being the financial running of the club. While the university still funds the club and there are a number of loyal sponsors there are still significant costs to be met in today’s rugby landscape.
I have been asked on a number of occasions by Old Boys how do we raise funds and how can they help. With this in mind the Reddies Old Boys Association are launching a funding appeal titled “Reddies In Union”. We are seeking annual voluntary donations from previous players, officials and supporters, in other words any Old Boys/Girls who are in a position to assist. The funds raised will be used to support aspects such as Student Scholarships (3 x $2000), travel subsidies for students and a number of overseas players joining the club ( 2 from Argentina, 1 from New Zealand and a returning England player for this year), training equipment, insurance costs, ARU registration fees, playing apparel and the general day to day running of a club in 2020.
The Old Boys have on occasions provided support for the families of injured players who have been unable to work for a period of time and also travel costs for a former player undergoing cancer treatment. Current players pay a registration fee of $200 for men and $160 for women. We are fully aware that people have many financial commitments and there are many fundraising groups also asking for donations and that it is why we stress the term “voluntary donation” in this request.
Already we have had a number of very generous donations from former club members who are committed to helping the club return to a strong position after what has been a tough few years. I’ve also put in a $500 donation myself. Whether it’s $10, $100 or $1000, any amount will be extremely helpful. To ensure full transparency the funds in the account will be administered by Giacca and Partners Accountants, an Old Boys Representative and a member of the clubs current executive. An annual financial statement will be available at the end of each year. There are over 500 former players, officials and supporters who keep their eye on the club through various forms of social media and hopefully many are still passionate about the club and can assist with this initiative leading into next years 50th Season Celebrations. If you would like further information please give me a call on 0420371093.
